Lenni-Lenape Indians arrived in this area around 1397, with the first European settlers arriving around 1720. New Britain Township, west of Doylestown, was founded in 1723, 53 years before the Declaration of Independence was signed. The Township is the location of Peace Valley County Park and Lake Galena. Also located here is the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
